Marlee’s Heart

August 20, 2014

This is Marlee, the 3-year old daughter of one of my Solosez colleagues. She has two heart conditions – pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum (PA/IVS) and hypoplastic right heart syndrome (HRHS).

Marlee

Tuesday morning she had her 7th heart surgery. The surgeon was able to install a 19mm valve, which is about 20-30% larger than the family had hoped for. The larger the better, because that governs how long it will last. This size could last 5-10 years, depending on how she grows.

According to her father, David Hiersekorn:

“Marlee had a rough night last night. Nothing medically dangerous. They’re trying to find the right balance of morphine to control the pain without inducing to much nausea. She can take sips of water so far – a couple ounces at a time. Nothing more, and no food.”

“… please also consider posting a “hand heart” picture of you and/or your kids. Marlee can’t read the comments, but she can see the photos and know that a bunch of people send their love. You can join the FB group “Marlee’s Heart” here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/marleesheart/. Please post the hand hearts in there.”

My challenge to each of you, on behalf of Marlee and the Hiersekorn family, post a ‘Hand Hearts’ picture to Marlee’s Heart.
